Why was he/she promoted but not me?
I used to wonder, “Why was he/she promoted but not me?” Just like many of us, I worked diligently and was always busy, trying to complete my tasks quickly. I consider myself a responsible person, often staying late and even working on weekends to accomplish as much as possible. Meanwhile, my colleague didn’t seem to have much workload. He was always free and felt comfortable in his work. At times, I thought he was lazy and irresponsible.
However, when I learned about time management methods, I began to understand the key difference. Although he didn’t have a heavy workload, the tasks he focus on were highly important and valuable. He had the ability to identify and prioritize tasks that were crucial for the company. He managed his time effectively, dedicating more time to important, high-value, and priority tasks. Furthermore, He always had plenty of time to generate valuable ideas for the management team.”. Despite completing only about 20% of his tasks, he achieved remarkable outcomes, contributing to 80% of the results.
On the other hand, I spent a significant amount of time on tasks that turned out to be unimportant, although I previously considered them vital. I failed to create substantial benefits for the company compared to him. Finally, I understood why he was promoted.
This realization led me to make a decision: to change myself and my mindset. By implementing time management methods, I became proficient at distinguishing between important and unimportant tasks, high-value and low-value tasks, and urgent and non-urgent tasks in my work. This enabled me to effectively manage my time, complete tasks efficiently, and generate more significant benefits for the company. As a result, I was promoted, and I now have more time to maintain a better work-life balance.
